This contribution misquotes Tolstoi.
It is not Platon Karatayev who states:
"The highest wisdom is not founded on reason alone, not on those worldly sciences of physics, history, chemistry, and the like, into which intellectual knowledge is divided. The highest wisdom is one. The highest wisdom has but one science- the science of the whole- the science explaining the whole creation and man's place in it."
This quotation is from Book Five Chapter II (2), as spoken by the stranger who is identified as the Mason.
Platon does not appear until Book 12 Chapter XII.

Another detail concerning the Tolstoi reference???
Tolstoi never mentions Galileo in "War and Peace.
However, he does discuss Copernicus and Ptolemy at the end of the story.
